Wedding locations in Tuscany: perfect backgrounds for my photo-reportage

Villas, parks, castles: I am very fortunate to work as a wedding photojournalist in Tuscany. I have the opportunity to create unforgettable photo-shoots in the best wedding locations in Tuscany, the region where I was born, and where, still to this day, I live and work. It is rich in hidden gems, as well as locations that are very well known all over the world. For your wedding you can choose many locations within and around Florence, but also many other areas of the Tuscan region, from the Sienese hills to Arezzo and Livorno. Let’s start by discovering the Renaissance villas, palaces and medieval castles that could frame your ceremony and the photographs that I would take for you.

Villa Dianella a Vinci: a wedding among vineyards and olive trees

If you dream of a wedding absorbed in the beauty of nature, without renouncing elegance, I recommend Villa Dianella in Vinci (yes, it’s precisely Leonardo da Vinci home town). This Medici villa is surrounded by Fattoria Dianella’s olive trees and vineyards, and is part of a small medieval village with a long history. Here, in the chapel that stands in the villa’s park, I have photographed religious weddings, but also civil ceremonies, given that one of the villa’s rooms has become a detached office branch of Vinci’s town hall. Local products, green landscapes and a refined environment: the great beauties of Tuscany have been the backdrop to many wedding ceremonies that I photographed here, which could also be for you.

Villa Medici La Petraia for a sixteenth-century ceremony

Elegance and splendor, history and modernity meet in the Medici Villa La Petraia situated at Castello, Florence. This historic Villa, also a beautiful tourist destination, has been part of many photo-shoots I captured, not only during the wedding ceremonies but also in beautiful pre-reception photo-shoots I often deliver. For an unforgettable wedding in a fabulous location, Villa La Petraia and its beautiful park are an excellent choice.

Villa La Selva in Montebenichi Bucine: for wine lovers

For couples who appreciate a good glass of Tuscan wine, Villa La Selva in Montebenichi Bucine may be the ideal wedding location. This wine resort is surrounded by wonderful forests, vineyards and fortifications, which have made the wedding photographs I have taken here truly magical. In addition to the magnificent setting, organizing a wedding here would also mean that you can benefit from the great organization offered by the villa, that can include catering, flower arrangement, designers, interior decorators, audio-video-lighting technicians, musicians and photographers like myself.

Villa La Foce in Chianciano Terme: a reception overlooking the Crete Senensi

A wedding of wonder, in the Italian countryside overlooking the Sienese hills: if you are looking for a similar experience, and I strongly recommend it, Villa La Foce is the perfect location for your wedding. Founded as a hostel for pilgrims and merchants at the end of the fifteenth century, since 1924, thanks to Antonio and Iris Origo, the property has become a farm and it is still to this day an agricultural company. In addition to the villa and its gardens, designed by the English architect Cecil Pinsent, the estate offers farm houses with private swimming pools and gardens, thus providing multiple solutions for your wedding day, and your wedding photographer. In this location you will be looked after by specialized staff and you can enjoy the excellent Tuscan cuisine, prepared with fresh products from the farm.

Villa Hotel Il Salviatino on the hills of Fiesole

In a fifteenth century villa in Fiesole you will find the beautiful Hotel Il Salviatino, that has provided a wonderful location for many of my wedding photo-shoots in Tuscany. The villa and its private gardens are perfect not only from an aesthetic point of view but also from a logistical one. You can rely on the hotel’s wedding planner who will make your long awaited day, magical. As well as for wedding receptions, the villa is often chosen as a romantic setting for wedding proposals.

Villa Il Petriccio: a wedding on the Florentine Hills of Chianti

A few kilometers from Florence, Pisa and Siena, in Montespertoli Chianti, stands the villa Il Petriccio. The extensive outdoor location, perfect for a wedding photographer, have allowed me to take wondrous scenic and suggestive wedding photos, also the large rooms inside, act as a magnificent wedding setting. In Villa Il Petriccio it is also possible to celebrate civil weddings, in the painting room inside the villa itself, or for those who prefer to get married outdoors, you can celebrate your wedding on the Belvedere terrace, on the island of the pool and in the Camellias Court.

Castello Il Palagio: for a modern medieval wedding

Creating a wedding photo-reportage in a medieval castle from the 1200 is a truly unique experience, as are the receptions held in the Palagio Castle in San Casciano Val Di Pesa area, between Florence and Siena. This historic setting combines the beauty of the Chianti countryside with its hills, vineyards and olive groves, and is a wonderfull background for a wedding photographer in Tuscany. The staff will be ready to organize and fulfill your every need. For the reception one can also use the beautiful park with the typical Italian gardens. In this wonderful location one can celebrate civil weddings, or take advantage of the small and ancient consecrated chapel that overlooks the castle courtyard. Castello Vicchiomaggio: romance on the Chianti hills

Religious and civil celebrations, receptions and lodgings; the beautiful Vicchiomaggio Castle offers this and much more for the day of your wedding. This is undoubtedly a romantic location that helps to make my photos magical. The garden and the internal courtyard are perfect for hosting an aperitif and after dinner celebrations, while for your ceremony dinner you can choose from the elegant rooms within the castle. In addition, the property is owned by a winery, so if you wish you can purchase their wines, to be served during the reception.

Villa Margherita in Quercianella: a sea side wedding

Would you like to celebrate your wedding on a terrace overlooking the sea? I will be ready to capture every moment of that magical day at Villa Margherita in Quercianella, in the Livorno area. The hotel is characterized by its elegant interiors and large open spaces, such as the already mentioned terraces, overlooking the sea and the beautifully lit pool. Villa Belsole in Certaldo: immersed in the Chianti countryside

Between Siena and Florence, in the charming town of San Martino a Maiano in Certaldo, stands Villa Belsole. This 19th-century house is surrounded by ancient trees, making my wedding photo-report even more special. In the large garden equipped for hosting parties and wedding receptions there is an elegant heated swimming pool, around which magical pictures, of you as a couple on your special day, can be taken. The 600-square-meter villa is spread over three levels and can host, in its beautiful rooms, you and some of your guests.

Val d’Orcia and San Galgano: a fairytale wedding

I will conclude this overview of the best wedding locations in Tuscany not with a specific villa, hotel or palace, but with an entire area. Val d’Orcia is magnificent and a perfect location for wedding photographs, it has perfect surroundings in which to celebrate your wedding ceremony. For example, you can choose an agriturismo (refurbished rural farm house) and enjoy the beautiful landscape of the Sienese hills. Not surprisingly Val d’Orcia has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004, thanks to its landscapes and ancient villages. If I had to mention one wedding location in Val d’Orcia, it would certainly be the Abbazia of San Galgano: the large church, now deprived of its roof, hosts civil wedding ceremonies and does so in a breathtaking and unique setting. To be able to have a religious ceremony in this location, you must apply to the local municipality of Chiusdino. If you prefer a religious ceremony, in the immediate vicinity of the Cistercian abbey, you can find the chapel of San Galgano, known as Eremo di Montesiepi; here you will find the famous Italian “sword in the stone”, the rock in which the sword of San Galgano is embedded.

It is unquestionable that Tuscany offers unique, not to say magical, wedding locations. After working here for many years, I am still not tired of taking photo-shoots in these fascinating locations of my homeland.
